My son’s bike chain was a little loose and broke, and I need to put it back together. What tools do I need? Can I just pop out the silver pin holding the links together, and put it back in to complete the chain?
I’ve had this chain laying around for a few weeks now because I don’t have the special tool for putting the rivet on. I’ve heard you can use a hammer/center punch to ping down the rivet. Is this safe? I just don’t want the new chain to come flying off because I didn’t use the right tool. However, the chain tool is expensive and you pretty much have to order it online to get the best price. thanks for any help.
the new chain comes with spacers for the master link to make sure it goes back together right. i guess you slide them between the plates on the link, then back out when it’s riveted.
I know how to remove the old chain. My big q is how to get the NEW rivet back on. I got some punches that are almost big enough, but how do I know when the rivet is secure? I’ve heard you can just tap it down with a ball peen and a sledge on the backside to hold it.
Nevermind. I finally found a cheap tool from Motion Pro. Only 20 bucks shipped! Can’t believe nobody rec’d this before. Their other tools sell for a lot more, but this one says it’ll do 530 chain which is exactly what I have. Plus, I don’t care about breaking the old chain. I can do that with a dremel tool and punch. Only safety issue is putting the new chain back on. If anyone has used the “mini” i’d appreciate any feedback! thanks!
identical results ? So there can be some “certainty” about the correctness of the proposed change. Why don’t all the system developers have access to such tools ? (There must be someone in the middle of the food chain denying access to the proper tools)
i’m fairly new to cycling. i’m replacing the chain on my bike. i’ve never done it before. i got a chain tool, and removed the extra links and have gotten it to the right length… what now?
how do i put the pin they gave me with the chain in? does it just slide in?
thanks for the help! mission accomplishe!!! = )
Does anyone know unique tools/gadgets that will help men who wear their wedding bands all the time except for very few instances for a short period of time (such as playing sports or working out at the gym)? For instance, a key chain or neck chain type of tool/gadget that will enable them to EASILY safekeep the ring close to them and be able to EASILY wear it back right after?
I cant seem to remove the timing chain from my motor. I have already unscrewed all the bolts I can see. I took the bolt and washer off the sprocket. I cant remove the sprocket. Am I missing a bolt somewhere in the back. Do I use a pulley tool?
The sprocket I cannot remove is the big one. The one on top.
I’m trying to put my son’s new bike together. The chain is weaved through the frame of the bike, so it cannot be removed. The chain seems to be “kinked”, so I cannot weave it through the gear mechanism. I’m trying to take the chain off, in order to unkink it and weave it through properly. I bought a cheap chain tool, but it just bent. When trying to take the rods out of a link, does it matter which way you push the rod through? If so, how do you know which side is which? Can you remove any rods, or is there a master link that comes apart? Any known tool to make it easy? Thanks for any help.
best way to cut or pry the chain apart on a wheel clamp, where can I buy the tool, what is it called?
clampers should be clamped
Thanks
hey managed to get it off by removing wheel and lower steering arm without causing any damage. ONE UP FOR THE Motorist, clampers 0
My chainsaw is dull (the chain blade) -is this something I have to take into a shop to have done-I have some basic tools-it is a 18 inch craftsaman.
