can you break a bike chain with out the bike chain tool?

the derailer (sp?) on my mnt bike broke and its my only form of transportation, so i was wondering if there was a way i could make it a single speed without having to buy a bike chain tool?

    just get the rivet tool, its worth the 2 dollars, plus you save the hassle and you bike from scratching by trying to force it off

    I equip all my bikes with a master link. So easy to take apart and it allows for much easier chain maintenance.

    I truly do not know how to take apart a chain and re-assemble without a chain tool. Take apart, yes, put back together, no.
    Sorry can’t be of more assistance.
