extremist asked:

I listen to a lot of bands with dark music and/or depressing lyrics, like Alice in Chains, Blind Melon, the Misfits, AFI, Black Label Society, et. I also like some more positive bands too though, like Bad Religion, Incubus, Tool, and Pennywise. But anyways does a person have to give up these negative influences to create a positive change, or it simply just entertainment?
*or is it just entertainment

A lot of times the kind of music people listen to reflects their personality and/or how they feel about themselves. However some music is purely entertainment. Like Weird Al’s music.

well the music I listen to don’t reflect who I am because I have a tendency to like music if it sounds good.

some of the most depressing songs i listen to are connected with some of the happiest times in my life.

it depends on your feelings for music.
im open to EVERYTHING, so i definately dont judge a song just by its lyrics. music is such a way to open your mind and change your mood, or help you in a tough time, or enhance a good one.

its all about what you think.

Nothing we give our attention to is just entertainment. We are all very sensitive to our environment and sound plays a big role in how we think and feel.

Try classical sometimes. Don’t just listen to one style of music.
