Brett H asked:

I have a gas scooter it is driven by a belt. The problem with this is the belt keeps breaking and I’m wondering if I can change it so that it is driven by a chain. Would this be expensive? What tools would I need? Would it be difficult to do?

Yes it can be. But you either have lot of tools and skills (and you would not be asking) or get it done custom.

So it would be cheaper for you to sell your scooter and buy another with chain drive.

    Good Luck…

you could put sprokets on the motor and the drive.Probably only need a socket set, and a chain cutter and a master link.
this stuff does add up quick though. The sprokets you get should be close to the same size as the pulley is now, also you would need to make sure the shaft diameters on the motor and the drive are the same on your sproket. Take it to a local bike shop and tell them what you want to do I’m sure they can help,

Tell MAKE< MODEL < YEAR . If you have a variable belt drive you are looking at a big project- will probably end up with single speed, low speed afterwards. A centrifugal clutch and single speed chain drive is probably possible- but you’ll only do 20mph instead of 30. Or is this a toy scooter with single speed to begin with?
