I just got my first bike (Honda VFR750), it’s been very well maintained, but some oxidation on the chain is causing it to tick every time it goes by the sprocket. I’m very handy and do all my own work on my cars and I’m going to replace the chain next weekend, but I haven’t ever done anything on a bike. Based on the repair manual it doesn’t look too hard to do, how hard will it be? Where should I order the chain from (Website or store) and how much should I expect to pay? Do I need anything other than the cutter, chain, lube, and tools?

You will need to know the size of your chain. This should be stated in the service manual.
In the 1986 VFR750F service manual it states chain as a DID50VA-1 or RK50HFO DennisKirk sells DID and RK chains.

I’m sorry Nate. I forgot to answer the last part of your question.
As for the chain cutter; I don’t think you will need that. The chains come in the proper length when you order them. Also I think the chain for your bike is the type that is made without a master link so you will not need that either. These chains are harder to install though since you must remove the swing arm for installation.
Tools needed would be those necessary for chain removal and installation. I don’t think any specialised tools are necessary.
And of course you will need chain lube or a heavy oil such as 80 or 90 weight.

spray wd-40 on the chain sounds like your chain is rusty if the tick noises stop lube with chain lube or replace chain

but I would try some chain lube on the bike first..
wash it down with petrol to make sure its clean & relube( dont smoke while your doing it)… LMFAO
