Stiff links in a 9 speed chain?

Recently put a 9 speed (campy) chain on my road bike. The chain came with factory lube on it. No problems the first few rides (probably about 150 miles total) but then yesterday in the middle of a 30 mile ride the chain got two stiff links in it. We stopped and tried flexing the chain back and forth but no amount of tweaking the chain would loosen the stiff links. Ended up limping home with a jumping chain. Tonite I took out the 2 bad links and replaced them with some extra C-9 chain that I had. NOticed when tightening the new section I put in that those links are stiff too. WHat is the trick to closing a chain with a chain tool and having the links rotate freely?

    This site should answer all your questions about chains.

    EDIT;
    Intrepid, true, His site is one of the best ever compiled on bike info. I just hope it’s maintained.

    Try using the larger section of the chain breaking tool. This will stretch the tight link and make it run smoothly. I have had that problem in the past, and this did the trick.

    Happy riding
