Errante asked:

hello, I just bought a panasonic touring ff sytem and was rather shocked and dismayed to find that the freewheel on the back wheel was “frozen.” After some research and headscratching, I realized that on this bike the front chain wheels were what “freewheeled.” I examined the crank on my bike and is “freewheel.” It acts like it needs to worked on, How hard is it to work on these types of front freewheel cranks? Could it just be a matter of disassembling the crank, cleaning the crappy old grease out and reassembling? how to do it, do i need special tools, I just want took apart and cleaned and repaired and recabled it and lube and regreased it.
thank so much for your time and your advices, im new in this kind of bike, and i would like to learn how to do it, if somebody can give advices, i’ll appreciate that, please don’t hesitate if you have more question about it, and be explicit

thank you

i want my last resort to be going to the bike shop to pay them to take it off for me.

I don’t have a chain whip tool, but when I take the lock ring off I use the chain and the crank to hold the cog while I loosen the lock ring.

But this time it is so tight on there that I can’t take it off.
any ideas/suggestions?

thx

Dan Deluxe asked:

I need to replace chain, gears, crank, tyres etc on my Specialized Hard Rock and instead of taking it it to a shop to get fixed i want to buy the parts and learn to do it myself to save money. I dont know how much different parts should be so i want to know somewhere with reliably good prices so that i dont have to mess about comparing different sites. I also need all necessary tools etc
