Basicly, in the scenario I envision, I must be able to perform these tasks:

A. set up base camp, clear brush, obtain fire wood, drive 20-25 1.25 pipe in ground attach pitcher pump.
B. minor mechanical repairs to deisel truck, generator. Battery starter etc.
C. Be able to cut chain link, chain, locks etc. while scrounging.
D. Maintain weapons, other tools.

On my list of tools is: Tool bag, Small Stanley 3/8 ratchet, socket set with Allen wrenchs and driver handle with assorted driver bit and Torx bits.
Basic Metric and SAE wrenchs.
Wonder Bar.(its a flat pry bar and nail puller)
Multi-Tool, basic Leatherman model.
Hammer.(either framing hammer or mini-maul hammer. undecided)
1 pipe wrench, 2 adjustible wrenchs, Channel Locks, Vice Grips
Loppers, Bolt cutters
Glock E-tool
Cold Steel “Trail Hawk” tomahawk

if you were to purchase a chain saw.
what brand is best?
what are the must have features?
what brand is less of a hassle?/which brand would be “good” for a beginner/newbie?
what time of the year is best to get a good deal on a chainsaw?
what is the best chain store to purchase one from?

I assume like any other tool/mechanical device..some brands are complete junk..should be avoided..not worth the power to blow them up etc..
that is why I appreciate your opinion/feedback
