  • CorruptedSpirit, not dead yet... says:

Mennonites use power tools, and are usually mistaken for the Amish

  • Think for Yourself says:

Some amish sects do use power tools, but not many.

  • Gazoo says:

Are you sure he wasn’t Mennonite? Anyhow, it’s possible. The rules do vary by colony and the often make exceptions for paid work.

  • ⌡Machine Head⌠ says:

In certain communities power tools are okay as long as they are not connected to the electrical grid. I believe I read in Fine Woodworking of an amish factory which used every manner of power driven machinery except that the electric motors were replaced with pneumatic motors supplied by a gasoline powered compressor.

  • Disapproving Babby Disapproves says:

The Amish do use some “modern” technology. I know some use bicycles and some very old hand washing machines. If you watch a documentary called “The Devils’ Playground” it goes into a little detail as to why that is.

  • Asdis says:

It’s like the Chainsaw Massacre lol.

  • christianman says:

I once saw a young Amish girl wearing ‘freaky’ sunglasses.

I don’t know what my point is.

  • Jim says:

It’s ok for them to rent them. We had some amish timber cutters using rented saws and a rented skid loader.
