Teegan asked:

As in James Hetfield, The guys in Alice in Chains, Kurt Cobain, Dave Grohl, Black Sabbath,
Maynard James Keenan of Tool, Phil Anselmo of Pantera, Zac De la Rocha

In how many cases is it real effort and talent versus mental stimulation from drugs?

Is it possible to create metal without all the drugs and alcohol that many bands evidently use?

Drugs and alcohol don’t make music.

its not the drugs and alcohol, i promise you.
its the sadness really, that longing numb feeling..
the key to a great song is emotion with a touch of skill.

maybe its that drained feeling when the drugs are gone, that depression would make for a wonderous song.

you dont need drugs most metal dudes just really know their instrument and write what they feel for lyrics

  • Ron says:

i think they get it from being ridiculously bad-ass. if you were as cool as james hetfield and dave grohl, you’d have music spilling out of you too.
