I don’t know how I’m gonna choose a best answer for these, b/c there are so many good answers.
“Ball and Chain” by Social Distortion. My favorite by a long shot, because it painfully describes the love-hate relationship of addiction.
Edit: Good call on “Needle”, Ann. Definitely my favorite “third person” account of addiction.
I don’t know if it fits the addiction genera, but it definitely is a good song about needing a chemical boost to keep performing.
