In the long run though, if you go vinyl you don't have to do yearly maintnance. The only thing you might have to do is wash it down. You might also consider (if it is available in your area) a composite fence. It grows very fast and very tall and can be clipped into a hedge at the height you want. Walmart has them each spring for $5 ea.
